The process of cell division in which a mother cell gives rise to two daughter cells.

In our first collection, Cytokinesis, we created fun patterns based on images of the first cell division from Caenorhabditis elegans. C. elegans is a small soil nematode about 1 mm long, widely used for developmental biology studies. This organism has a number of characteristics that make it ideal for this type of study: it is transparent, has a short life cycle, small size, a small genome and is easy to grow in the laboratory.
